Travelers provides insurance coverage to protect the things that are important to you. They are seeking a Software Engineer II to join its Design System team, responsible for advanced front-end engineering tasks including designing, developing, testing, and documenting updates to the Design System.
Perform analysis, design, development, and configuration functions (includes defining technical requirements) with a high degree of accuracy and speed, operating as an individual contributor to team goals.
Perform analysis, assessment and resolution for defects and incidents of advanced complexity and escalate appropriately.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced employees.
Create WCAG 2.2 accessible components for the Travelers Design System, using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/Typescript. Any experience with Web Components, Stencil.js, React, and Angular will be applicable in this work.
Work independently to tackle well-scoped and loosely scoped problems, working closely with Experience Design team members to determine the best possible component feature sets.
Write documentation for our engineering customers clearly and concisely to make our components easy to implement and maintain.
Seek opportunities to expand technical knowledge and capabilities, including staying familiar with new front-end techniques as they become available.
Be a resource for other development teams to implement components owned by the design system and assist with ensuring accessibility in custom components coded by application teams.

Qualification
Required
Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in work experience.
Two years of programming/development experience.
Perform analysis, design, development, and configuration functions (includes defining technical requirements) with a high degree of accuracy and speed, operating as an individual contributor to team goals.
Perform analysis, assessment and resolution for defects and incidents of advanced complexity and escalate appropriately.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced employees.
Create WCAG 2.2 accessible components for the Travelers Design System, using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/Typescript.

Strong communicator who possesses the ability to articulate information clearly and concisely with the business.
Intermediate leadership skills with the ability to help create a safe environment for others to learn and grow as engineers.
Preferred
Four years of programming/development experience preferred.
In-depth understanding of accessibility standards and guidelines, particularly in building and testing for WCAG 2.0 standards is highly preferred.
Experience with at least one of the following is preferred: Web Components, React, or Angular.
Experience with Stencil.js is appreciated but not required.
Familiarity with design concepts such as typography and color theory or tools like Figma are appreciated.
